OBSESSION: How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM)

This song makes me happy and giggly, and b/c of our non-stop viewing of this show over Christmas - it reminds me of the Holiday Season!

OBSESSION: Guitar Hero 3, "Cliffs of Dover"

No, this is not me playing. This is on "Expert" and I am only just starting on "Hard", so I won't be anywhere near this for a long time. But pretty cool to watch and this is just an AWESOME SONG!

MONTH #2

MoniKitchen
Heavenly Chicken
I'm at work right now, so don't have the recipe here, but will add this weekend so you can all indulge!

Will You Go Out With Me?
Bahama Breeze
This was over my Christmas break. We had drinks in the bar and talked about Guitar Hero and reminisced about the Honeymoon while drinking our Mai Tai's.
Tim had ribs and I had some cajun rice dish with a whole mass of seafood in it. We thought about going to a movie, but instead decided to come home and play more Guitar Hero!! It's like we're 14yr old boys!

That's HilAAArious!
We have a tendency to get obsessed with things, and most of our catch phrases come from television and movies. Well, our funniest moments and "new" thing for this month was "SWARLY!" It is from How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM!). One episode a barista mishears Barney's name, so writes his name as "Swarly" on his coffee drink. The gang continues to call him Swarly for the remainder of the episode. So we burgld the storyline and decided to start calling Josh 'Swarly' without telling him why. Eventually we explained, but it was funny to randomly call him that and he was a good sport and just went with it even though he had no idea what we were talking about or what it meant!

NEW CATEGORY!
Obsession of the Month
In reference to the above entry, I decided to add the category of Monthly Obsessions. B/c believe me, we get new ones often. We have many that we've had throughout the years that have settled to a slow boil, but still are faves. But we get new ones all the time and if there's any one aspect of our relationship that defines us - it's these obsesssions!
So on that note - our NEW obsessions for this month are:
-Guitar Hero III (we're both on Medium. Best song is "Ciffs of Dover")
-How I Met Your Mother (watched season 1 & 2 on DVD)
-SNL Astronaut Jones (from the second time Britney Spears hosted, at the very end. We just watched that episode randomly and never remembered seeing it before. It's with Tracy Morgan! I'm sure you can YouTube it somewhere)

Good Talk
The "Good Talk" was probably more good for me than him. It was the opening of the "drunk at the end of the wedding" can of worms. It was something that I thought didn't bother me at the time, but then the whole *principle* argument came up and bit me. It would resurface from time to time and as I've learned, as soon as I get a topic to vent about it makes me "itch" - and it's and itch I gotta scratch!

Recap
This month was the first month of the rest of our lives! Almost...done with the Honeymoon, done with Christmas and New Year's. We are at the most difficult time of the year. The ongoing argument of drinking reared its ugly head a few times. It's better than it ever was, but I've also seemed to have adapted a "No Tolerance" type of attitude toward the issue.

Marriage Epiphany
Now, I realize sometimes these epiphanies can be like "uh, duh!" But think about it in the context of, say, being engaged. Everyday you talk about getting married. You say "we're getting married" hundreds of times. But then there's those times - maybe not even until the night before or day of - when you think "Holy Shit!!! We're getting married!!!!"
These are the epiphanies I am recording. So I'm not sitting atop my marital mountain preaching my noble "discoveries" to you single persons.
With that in mind, here's my Month #2 epiphany.
Tim and I are married. MARRIED. M-A-R-R-I-E-D. Not dating anymore, not boyfriend and girlfriend, passed engaged! We are Mr. & Mrs. - together until our dying day and beyond!
So are we different people now? Not personality-wise, but moreso is this a new leaf and new life?
My realization is that YES! Our wedding day was "from this day forward". A fresh start. So does that mean our slates are wiped clean? We all know I have a problem letting things go, holding grudges and using hte past as ammunition. So wouldn't it be refreshing to say that was in our dating years - and this is now our marriage!
But, then I must play devil's advocate and ask - if we leave our issues and past fights in our "dating years", then isn't it fair to say we leave the good times there too? Is this new leaf subjective to only happy things coming along with us into marriage? While we are very much what we grew to be back in the day with the board games, movies and the wave of "curlyness", we are very much defined by the issues that plagued us and the difficult times we had to go through to get to November 17, 2007 and today!
So is marriage just a snowball travelling down the mountain into eternity? And everything we've done - good & bad has added to the size, strength and shape of our snowball? Or is this like a new year at school? Same friends, same building, same locker, but new teachers and classes. You could only be in the next year in school because you passed the previous years classes!
Who knows if I'll ever truly side with either side of this argument. But it is something to take a step back and ponder in those times I am reaching into the past for that darn ammunition.

UPDATE to WEEK #8: January 6, 2008- January 12, 2008

Social Butterflies
Thursday Night after work! (Tim & Monica separately)
Because I am so proud of our success in this field, I didn't want to leave this part out! Which, I accidentally did when typing up my last post!
BUT after work on Thursday, I went out with Ashley, Christine, Astrin, Lisa and Dan to the infamous Cubby Bear North (the site of a few post-softball game drunken fun nights last summer). We had some $1 beers and greasy bar food. Reminisced from the above mentioned Cubby Bear North stories and gossiped about work.
Meanwhile, Tim randomly ended up grabbing dinner at Fox & Hound with a few of his coworkers. So yay! It was our first "night apart".

WEEK #8: January 6, 2008- January 12, 2008

Home Cookin'
Salmon
It was my first full week back at work, and Tim's first "full week" at his new job. He was home for two days with a cold, so it threw a wrench in grocery shopping or cooking. But I did make salmon fillets one night - which surprisingly enough I've never made before! We made it with Lipton noodles - garlic & butter. A lighter fare as we try to stop our fat days!

Aww...That's Nice!
Tim surprised me in the shower on Friday morning. Got the day/weekend off to a great start! I'll leave it at that. Hey - we're newlyweds so it's no mystery that this kinda stuff goes on :)

Social Butterflies
Saturday Night - Steve's Birthday @ Healy's
We are two months into our marriage - and we are ROCKIN' this Social Butterfly category! I love it! We went out on good 'ol Madison St. to good 'ol Healy's! It was Steve/Anna and their peeps. I finally was able to have a Mai Tai! So w/rum I was feeling good - Steve was getting drunk and Tim was very buzzed too so we had a really fun time, talking about the wedding and some other various random topics!
There was some crazy chick that was hitting on all the guys - Steve, Tim & Ed that I know of. When she was hitting on Tim, he passed her on to Ed, and somehow later she got to Steve so I went over and gave him a big hug and pulled him away - he was very grateful!

20-Second T.O.
So we're 0 for 3 on our drives back from being out. We're fine while we're out, but Tim gets on my nerves on our drives home. This time he was falling asleep - so of course I was like NO WAY. He must have a delayed reaction to alcohol b/c he was "just drunk" when we left, but in the car he's falling asleep! So I just kept yelling at him to wake up. Basically it just ended by me storming in the condo and we both went right to sleep.

WEEK #7: December 30, 2007 - January 5, 2008

Home Cookin'
We went back to the 'ol standby this week and the best we did was a "gourmet" meal of Hamburger Helper! But we did cook it together so that was cute!
With Tim's new job, he's now a 9-5er, but his commute is less than half of mine, so he'll always be home before me so it will be hard for the nights I want to try a new recipe that he will have to just sit and wait for me to get home and do it all, rather than get a start on dinner as he can do & does when we're having our basic meals.

Social Butterflies
The holiday season has served us well in this catergory!
New Year's Eve 12/31
We went to Ellen's around 8pm. Played Guitar Hero for a little while. She got Guitar Hero 2 for Christmas so we brought our guitar with us to play battles!
Then we walked to the Map Room with Ellen, Brad, Anthony and Jenn & Billy met us there. I drank Lindeman's Framboise which was as uber yummy belgian beer that I am now obsessed with! The others drank Piraat beer, which of course we called "pirate".

Katie's Birthday 1/5
We drove up to Milwaukee Saturday afternoon and went over to Josh & Tina's for a couple hours. Tim & Josh played Guitar Hero (it's a recurring theme, don't ya think?)
Then we went to John's first so I could give Katie her gift - a fleece blanket embroidered with her name in a Chococat back-pack and also a Christmas journal which was really regifted from our Christmas presents since we got two.
We all walked to Zim's and had dinner. It was Josh, Tina, me, Tim, Katie, John, Mandsi and later Marne & Nick, Michelle & Dave and Nicole. When Josh & Tina had to go, Tim went with them and so it was a nice night "apart", but we were together for 1/2 of it. So a best of both worlds scenario!

Awww...That's Nice!
I'll be the first to admit I pulled a "girl" move on New Year's, for no real reason. I didn't feel drunk, but I did have several of the framboise beers, which are stronger in alchohol content than most drinks, so I guess it was only affecting my head, not my stomach as usual.
Basically, I just got really 'meh' about something that happened three months ago - Tim got a random text msg from his ex-girlfriend. We had gotten into it way back then, but for some crazy reason it popped back into my head after a few drinks on New Year's and I was being all pouty, jealous girl?
WELL, Tim, instead of getting super annoyed as he could have been, launched into a 10-minute speech about how much his ring, our wedding and our marriage/future means to him. It made me feel embarassed by my silliness, but really good about his confidence!

20-Second T.O.
Only a couple tiny little spats that lasted less than 5 minutes and didn't really matter!
